The FAB School Helping Teach the Next Generation of Fabricators
Riverside, California (November 1, 2005)
In the Fall of 2005, The FAB School opened its doors as a state of the art automotive fabrication school. Founded by Troy Johnson, with over 20 years experience in the off road manufacturing industry. His objective was to develop a new generation of experienced automotive fabricators. This approach of guiding and teaching in a hands on learning facility, is the key to effective training in this precise and intricate industry. Shaun Estes, owner of Wicked Sand Toys, said, “There is a desperate need in the industry for experienced fabricators and it is a breath of fresh air that Troy Johnson has taken the opportunity to launch The Fab School and fill the industry’s needs.” Fabrication businesses and race teams alike are finding the task of training fabricators difficult, while keeping up with the growing industry.
The FAB School is one of the first California state approved automotive fabrication schools in Southern California, providing instruction on the art of automotive fabrication, emphasizing the skills needed to build it all. They offer Introduction to Fabrication, Intermediate Fabrication, and Advanced Fabrication. They soon will be offering business and sponsorship courses as well. Fabrication classes include suspension design and theories, chassis design, pattern design, race prep, sheet metal work and extensive tube work, featuring notching, bending and cutting.
Administrator, Melissa Davis said, “The curriculum and training is closely monitored by teaching staff, which includes seasoned fabricators from many different areas, to ensure that students learn skills to successfully enter automotive fabrication careers.”
In addition, The FAB School requires that instructors are state certified and they offer job placement assistance and student loans through Sallie Mae Educational Loans.
Currently, over 60 students are enrolled in five different classes. By the end of the year, their anticipating over 120 graduates from six different courses.
Brian Tinsley, from Pechanga Indian Reservation who is currently enrolled in The FAB School’s Introduction to Fabrication class commented, “When I signed up for The FAB School, I could not imagine how in-depth the training would be and at the same time it is relaxed enough that I can work at a pace that I am able to absorb everything.”
Jason Whitfield, the President/CEO of Rage Performance, who is also sponsored by General Motors for sport compact drag racing, enrolled in The FAB School with the intention of learning the meticulous ways of fabrication from the off-road guys. He said, “As a business owner and professional drag racer, The FAB School has been the best investment for my time and money in furthering my skills and knowledge. This has been a great experience that I can carry over to my business and race team. I was also very surprised how involved the instructors are with the students. After I complete this class, I will be attending advanced classes and also will be sending my employees to obtain training.”
The FAB School offers a multitude of courses throughout the year including mornings, afternoon, and night classes.
