Russ kicked off his love for fabrication when he was introduced to a welder right out of High School. His curiosity fueled his motivation and he did whatever he had to to do teach himself how to get started behind a torch. Russ practiced the trade after High School and in 1990 went to work with Mike Leslie Racing for their Factory Jeep program. During his time there he led 8 teams to a Championship as the lead mechanic and fabricator.
Enter Troy Johnson.
Russ and Troy worked closely together at Mike Leslie Racing and their friendship has evolved through a passion for metal working ever since.
Russ went on to be the lead mechanic and fabricator for Walker Evans Racing on his Trophy Trucks and then continued as Walker moved into Nascar Trucks. Curt, Todd and Kyle LeDuc, Brian Deegan and many more in the industry were lucky enough to have Russ leading the charge until we stole him away to pass on his knowledge to our students.
Russ is an asset to our school and we are lucky to have him and his knowledge as a part of our team.
